Opportunity Overview

Are you a grassroots justice activist seeking environmental and land justice through legal empowerment? The Legal Empowerment Fund (LEF) is now accepting applications for its 2025 Grants. This initiative supports grassroots organizations in the Caribbean working to close the global justice gap.

The Legal Empowerment Fund is a 10-year, multimillion-dollar effort by the Fund for Global Human Rights. It provides frontline activists and grassroots groups with the support they need to:

  • Close the global justice gap.
  • Protect lands and resources.
  • Hold governments and powerful actors accountable.

The LEF was established with the support of organizations such as:

  • Charles Stewart Mott Foundation
  • William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
  • Namati
  • International Development and Research Centre
  • Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies

Legal empowerment combines law with organizing to build power among people affected by injustice. It enables communities to know, use, and shape the law to secure justice and protect their rights.
