π About the Fellowship
The International Affairs Fellowship (IAF) in Indonesia, sponsored by Yayasan Persahabatan Indonesia Amerika Serikat (Indonesia-USA Friendship Foundation), aims to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between rising generations of leaders and thinkers in Indonesia and the United States.
This transformational program enables mid-career U.S. professionals to:
- Conduct research in Indonesia for three to twelve months.
- Develop a new professional network.
- Gain deeper insights into the opportunities and challenges Indonesia faces.
Eligible candidates include individuals from:
- Academia
- Business
- Government
- Journalism
- NGOs
- Think tanks
Note: Prior experience working in or writing about Indonesia is not required.

- Fellowship duration: 3 to 12 months.
- Stipend: $110,000 for a 12-month period (prorated for shorter durations).
- Travel grant: Modest travel allowance.
- Fellows are considered independent contractors (not employees of CFR) and are ineligible for employment benefits, including health insurance.
- No indirect costs can be deducted from the stipend.

To apply for the fellowship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be U.S. citizens.

- Have a strong record of professional achievement.
- Demonstrate a commitment to a career in foreign policy and an interest in U.S.-Indonesian relations.
