The Institute for Law & AI’s Summer Research Fellowship (EU Law) 2026 offers participants the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and collaboration in the field of AI and law.

💰 Benefits

Participants in the fellowship will receive the following benefits:

  • Weekly compensation: €1,000.
  • An additional €1,000 per week for living costs if working in person at the Cambridge, UK office.
  • Admission to the Cambridge Forum on Law and AI (Aug 18–23), with travel, accommodation, and meals covered.
  • Close mentorship, Q&A sessions with experts, and networking opportunities.
  • Potential for future collaborations, grants, and job openings.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Strong understanding of legal principles in EU AI regulation.
  • Open to applicants from all countries, including non-EU trained lawyers.
  • AI-specific research experience is not required.
  • Commitment to full-time work (June 29 – Sept 4, 2026).
  • Attendance at the in-person week in Cambridge (July 6–10) is mandatory.
  • Must have valid work authorization; visa sponsorship may be supported.

🗓️ Application Process and Timeline

Step 1: Submit Application Form

  • Complete the application form by 11:59 pm ET on January 30, 2026.
  • The application should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  • Late applications will not be assessed.

Step 2: Asynchronous Exploratory Interview

  • A 30-minute interview to understand your perspective on AI development and its implications for society, law, and policy.

Step 3: Research Interview

  • A 60-minute interview with a member of the research staff to discuss your research interests, goals, and fit for the program.
  • You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Step 4: Decision

  • Final decisions will be communicated by mid-March 2026.
  • If you need a decision by a specific date, please indicate this on your application form.
