IJP Middle East Programme Journalistsā Bursary Programme
The International Journalistsā Programmes (IJP) is now accepting applications for the Middle East Programme Journalistsā Bursary Programme in Germany 2026. This fellowship aims to provide young journalists with an opportunity to gain insights into political issues in Germany, fostering a deeper understanding of the relationship between Germany and the Middle East.
š About the Programme
The fellowship is designed to:
- Familiarize young journalists with political issues in Germany early in their careers.
- Enhance awareness of the relationship between Germany and the Middle East.
- Provide participants with personal insights into the mentality, culture, and daily life in Germany and the European Union.
š Benefits
Participants of the IJP Middle East Programme Journalistsā Bursary Programme will receive the following benefits:
- A grant of ā¬5,000 to cover a significant portion of travel, board, and lodging expenses.
- Fellows are expected to contribute partially to their costs.
- Note: No additional salary is provided for journalistic work on location.
ā Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the programme, applicants must:
- Be citizens of the participating countries.
- Be aged between 21 and 37 years.
- Work as a regular employee, trainee, or journalist for established media outlets.
š Application Date and Process
Key Dates:
- Application Deadline: 15 June, 2026.
- Notification of Successful Candidates: By mid-August 2026.
Application Requirements:
- No special application form is required.
- Submit the following documents:
- A detailed CV with a passport photo.
- A letter of motivation.
- A journalistic appraisal written by the head of department or editor-in-chief. This letter should:
- Support the application.
- Guarantee temporary leave of absence for the duration of the program.
- Serve as evidence of journalistic experience.
- Samples of previous work (optional but recommended).
- Language Proficiency:
- Strong English proficiency is required.
- Knowledge of German is welcomed but not mandatory.
- Selection Process:
- After an initial review, finalists may be invited for a selection interview or conference call.
- The selection committeeās decision is final and not subject to legal appeal.
Post-Fellowship Requirement:
- All fellows must submit a three-page report summarizing their experiences, activities, and impressions upon completion of the fellowship.
