The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is now accepting applications for its Human Developmental Biology – The Joint Canada-Israel Health Research Program Phase II (JCIHRP-II). This program supports cutting-edge research in biomedical sciences and global health, with a focus on Human Developmental Biology.
🧬 About the Program
Phase II of the Joint Canada-Israel Health Research Program aims to:
- Support world-class research projects in Human Developmental Biology.
- Strengthen scientific capacity in Canada, Israel, and low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).
- Promote collaboration, equitable partnerships, and scientific excellence.
Key Features:
- Research projects will be co-led by three principal investigators:
- One from Canada.
- One from Israel.
- One from an eligible LMIC (refer to the list of eligible countries).
- Teams must integrate researchers from all three regions to ensure equitable contributions and benefits.

- Total Funding Available: CAD $7.39M (approximately 5 grants).
- Per Project Funding: Up to CAD $1.478M over 4 years:
- Canada PI: Up to CAD $500K.
- LMIC PI: Up to CAD $500K.
- Israel PI: Up to NIS 1.2M (~CAD $478K).
✅ Eligibility Criteria
- The Canadian PI must be the Nominated Principal Applicant.
- Teams must include:
- One PI from Israel.
- One PI from an eligible LMIC.
- Indigenous involvement is required if the research includes Indigenous populations (Canada or LMIC).
- Teams must support capacity-building activities such as:
- Workshops.
- Training programs.
- Research exchanges.
- Each PI can only participate in one application.
