The Hobsons Bay Community Fund (HBCF) aims to promote a fair, inclusive, and vibrant community by fostering social inclusion and equitable access to community participation.
Vision
The vision of HBCF is to "benefit and strengthen the community of Hobsons Bay for present and future generations." The HBCF Committee collaborates with key local stakeholders to align priorities with the needs of the local community.
Focus Areas
The annual HBCF Community Grants Program supports activities that contribute to making the local community fair, inclusive, and vibrant.
In 2024, HBCF provided $65,312 in grants to 19 local projects, benefiting:
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities
- Migrants and asylum seekers
- People with disabilities
- Communities at risk of social isolation
- Equal opportunities in education, employment, and the arts

Funding Amounts
A total pool of approximately $60,000 is available for the 2025 HBCF Community Support Grants. Grants range from $500 to $10,000. Applications exceeding $5,000 should first be discussed with a member of the HBCF Grants subcommittee.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants include:
- Non-profits, clubs, groups, organizations, community centers, neighborhood houses, schools, and other entities delivering services or programs within Hobsons Bay.
- For-profit organizations delivering charitable projects or programs in partnership with non-profits or community groups (must contact the HBCF Grants subcommittee before applying).
- Community initiatives where the majority of participants are from Hobsons Bay.
- Sporting clubs, provided the activity is incidental to a charitable purpose.
❌ Who Can't Apply?
- Individuals
- Organizations or groups delivering projects outside Hobsons Bay
- Sporting clubs without a charitable purpose
- Proposals requiring operating or recurring costs (e.g., wages, utilities, rent, administrative costs)
- Capital projects
- General fundraising campaigns or annual appeals
- Proposals with alternative funding sources (e.g., sponsorships, service agreements, government funding)
- Organizations that previously received a grant but failed to provide a satisfactory Acquittal Report
📋 Application Process
Once submitted, your grant application will be reviewed by the HBCF Committee.
Assessment Process
- Eligibility Check
- Assessment and Recommendation: Recommendations are made to the Australian Communities Foundation (ACF), as HBCF is a sub-fund of ACF.
- Review Panel
The HBCF Grants subcommittee ensures adequate dispersion and diversity of proposals across Hobsons Bay.
Outcomes
- Successful applicants must provide a report on project outcomes within the 12-month grant period.
- An authorized representative must complete an HBCF Electronic Funds Transfer authorization form.
- Approved recipients will receive a letter of offer from ACF, and grant monies will be disbursed upon acceptance.
