Granada UNESCO City of Literature, in collaboration with the University of Granada, announces the International Writers in Residence Programme in Granada. This initiative aims to strengthen international cooperation in the cultural sector and support literary creation.
π About Granada Writers in Residence Program
This program is organized by Granada UNESCO City of Literature and the University of Granada, with the following objectives:
- Foster connections and exchange between authors from Granada and those from other cities and countries.
- Promote the international visibility of literary authors connected with Granada.
- Support the internationalization of the cityβs cultural fabric.
- Position Granada as a cultural city and a welcoming space for international creative talent.

π Benefits of Granada Writers in Residence Program
Selected writers will enjoy the following benefits:
- 30-night stay in Granada from November 3 to December 2, 2025, at the Corrala de Santiago, a guest residence of the University of Granada.
- Travel expenses covered by Granada UNESCO City of Literature.
- Full board accommodation in a private room at the Corrala de Santiago, provided by the University of Granada.
- Opportunities to engage with Granada's literary life, including:
- Meetings with local writers.
- Participation in workshops and educational activities.
β Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to writers and literary translators residing in any country and writing in any language. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- At least two published books (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc.); self-published works are not eligible.
- Upper-intermediate level of English or Spanish.
- Submit a summary of the literary project to be developed during the residency.
- Complete and send the application form.
What We Request
- Active participation in the literary and cultural activities proposed by the program.
- Commitment to focusing on the literary project during the stay.
- Publicly share and promote the residency experience in Granada (e.g., on social media).

Additional Materials (Optional but Appreciated)
- Knowledge of Spanish.
- Cultural and historical interest in the city of Granada.
- An excerpt (1,500β3,000 words) from one of the applicantβs published works, translated into Spanish or English.
- Letter(s) of recommendation.
π Selection Process
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Quality and relevance of the literary project.
- Published works (minimum two books).
- Language proficiency (English or Spanish).
Selection Committee
The committee will consist of experts appointed by the Granada UNESCO City of Literature Office and the University of Granada.
Announcement of Results
Selected writers will be announced on September 30, 2025, on the Granada City of Literature website.
