✅ Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Organisations managing sites of national historic, architectural, or cultural significance
  • Sites must allow public access or public engagement

  • Private owners of heritage assets
  • Individuals
  • Projects involving purchase of land or existing buildings
  • Overheads, salaries, running costs, promotional materials, or loan repayment
  • Projects already completed

📝 Application Process

Applications are submitted in two stages:

Stage 1: Initial Proposal

Required information includes:

  • Organisation details: name, address, charity number (if applicable), head of organisation, contact person
  • Background of the organisation and previous relevant experience
  • Project title and brief summary
  • Site details: location, ownership, tenure, listed building status
  • Collections benefiting, visitor numbers, project timetable
  • Total project cost, funds already raised, funding shortfall
  • Signed audited accounts for the last two years
  • Confirmation of support from the Chief Executive

Stage 1 notes: Additional details like previous Wolfson funding, optional notes, or endorsements may be included.

Stage 2: Full Proposal

Invited applicants must provide:

  • Evidence of funds raised for at least 25% of project costs
  • All necessary planning permissions in place
  • Detailed project plan, including restoration methodology, milestones, and sustainability measures

Decision timelines: Stage 1 applications are reviewed before Stage 2 invitations. Funding decisions are made in June and December.
