📖 About the Research Scholarship

The research scholarship will be conducted at Lusófona University and CERIS Research Centre, both located in Lisbon, Portugal. The work plan includes the following:

  1. Modelling of fatigue degradation in granular layers of pavements.
  2. Development of machine learning algorithms for damage detection.
  3. Creation of a toolbox for automatic data acquisition, damage progression forecasting, and early warning systems for pavements.

The fellowship is for an initial period of 6 months, starting in September 2025, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 12 months.

💰 Benefits

  • Monthly Maintenance Allowance: €1309.64 per month, plus a Social Security contribution.
  • Payment will be made via bank transfer.

🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in one of the following areas:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Other related areas relevant to the project

Additional Notes:

  • The MSc classification must be recognized by Portuguese authorities.
  • Candidates with foreign degrees may submit a declaration stating they will provide recognition documents before signing the work contract.
  • Fast-track recognition is available for MSc degrees from universities in the European Union and specific countries, including Andorra, Brazil (CAPES score ≥ 5), Canada, Macau, Moldova, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, and the UK.

  • BSc Degree Certificate.
  • MSc Degree Certificate.
  • Motivation Letter.
  • Recommendation Letters (optional).

🔍 Selection Process

Selection Methods:

  1. Scientific Merit (70%)

    • Final grade of the course (50% Undergraduate + 50% Master’s Degree).
    • Scientific publications:
      • 5 points for ISI journals
      • 2 points for non-ISI journals
      • 1 point for international conferences
      • 0.5 points for national conferences
  2. Interview (30%)

    • The top three candidates based on scientific merit will be invited for an interview.

The final score will be calculated as 0.7 * Scientific Merit + 0.3 * Interview. The jury reserves the right to close the call without selecting any candidates if qualifications are deemed insufficient.
