The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship offers senior officials and professionals from the energy sector in China the opportunity to spend three months in Dundee as a visiting Chevening Fellow.

📖 About Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship

The fellowship is hosted at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee. The programme is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Programme Structure

  • Fellows will spend three months at the University of Dundee working on a specific research project that supports the broader aims of the UK-China Energy Dialogue, as agreed with the CEPMLP academic supervisor.
  • Fellows will have unrestricted access to classes, lectures, and seminars to support their chosen area of research.
  • An academic supervisor will provide guidance throughout the fellowship.
  • Proposed research will be discussed with a University of Dundee faculty member during the interview process.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of China and currently reside in the country.
  • Intend to return to China at the end of the period of study.
  • Agree to adhere to all relevant guidelines and expectations for the programme.
  • Hold a postgraduate (PG) level qualification or equivalent professional training/experience in a relevant area at the time of application.
  • Have significant professional experience (five+ years), currently employed, or be a currently enrolled PhD candidate (PhD must not be with a UK/EU or USA university).
  • Not hold dual nationality where one nationality is British (except for nationals exempt from this requirement listed in the Chevening Guidance for Applicants).
  • Not be an employee, former employee, or relative* of an employee of His Majesty’s Government or affiliated organisations within the last two years.

Additional Conditions

  • Applicants who previously received financial benefits from an HMG-funded scholarship or fellowship are eligible to apply after a period of five years following the completion of their first award.
  • Employees, former employees, or relatives* of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organisation they are affiliated with.

Note: Relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or step-children, spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner (where the couple has been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).
