📖 About the Internship
The Brookings Research and Events Internship offers a 12-week program where interns work alongside leading experts in government and academia from around the world. This internship provides students with a pre-professional learning experience, offering meaningful, practical work related to their field of study or career interests.
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Attend meetings, think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events.
- Network with other interns throughout the institution.
This internship is ideal for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and graduate students pursuing a master's degree with an interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations. Interns will support scholar research and activities on U.S. policy towards Europe and the foreign policies of European states, applying classroom principles in a professional environment.
🎯 Learning Objectives

Policy and Research Focus:
- Explore issues such as U.S.-European relations, the Russia-Ukraine war, European Union politics, and transatlantic relations.
- Gain insights into the foreign policies of countries like France, Germany, and Turkey.

Professional Development:
- Work with the Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) team on programmatic and administrative tasks, event coordination, and research support.
- Develop organizational, analytical, and professional interpersonal skills.

Hands-On Experience:
- Assist in planning and implementing workshops, roundtables, and briefings.
- Conduct research, monitor developments, and compile relevant materials.
- Provide administrative support and attend foreign policy events.
💰 Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour.
- Work Commitment: Minimum of 16 hours per week during regular business hours, with flexibility around academic schedules.
- Hybrid Opportunity: Combines in-person presence at the Washington, DC office with the option for remote work.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
- Must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship.
- Work location cannot be in the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.
- Open to undergraduate students (junior or senior year) and graduate students pursuing a master's degree with an interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations.
- PhD students are not eligible for this internship.
📋 Qualifications
Education/Knowledge/Skills:
- Undergraduate or graduate students with a focus on European affairs and transatlantic relations are encouraged to apply.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a background investigation is mandatory.
- Applicants must be able to live and work in states other than those listed as ineligible.
