The American Ornithological Society (AOS) is now accepting applications for the Latin American/Caribbean Conservation Research Grant 2026. This grant supports early-career scientists conducting conservation-related research on migratory or resident birds in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The American Ornithological Society (AOS) is committed to the study and conservation of migratory and resident birds throughout the Americas. The organization also supports the career development of early-career scientists.
The AOS Conservation Committee sponsors this grants program to:
- Support early-career scientists from Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Fund conservation-related research on migratory or resident birds in these regions.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the grant, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be early-career scientists with graduate degrees (MS or Ph.D.) and within 5 years of graduating.
- Be from countries within Latin America and the Caribbean. Priority will be given to applicants who:
- Live and work in the region.
- Demonstrate strong integration with local communities and institutions.
- Currently enrolled students are not eligible but are encouraged to apply for other AOS student research grants.
- Focus on conservation-related research projects involving one or more avian species (resident or migratory) in Mexico, Central America, South America, or the Caribbean.
- Projects focusing on species of concern (e.g., declining, threatened, or endangered) and their habitats will be prioritized.
- Submit innovative proposals addressing compelling scientific questions with actionable outcomes for species and habitats with immediate conservation needs.
- Proposals must describe how the research will contribute to mitigating species endangerment and/or habitat management in the "Conservation Implications" section of the research narrative.
- Projects requiring invasive methodologies must:
- Be carefully justified.
- Demonstrate the team’s qualifications to carry them out.
- Highlight the scientific value and impacts on focal birds.
- Awardees must be current members of AOS or willing to become members.
- Temporary, complimentary memberships may be requested in cases of financial hardship.
