๐ŸŒŸ About AKIโ€™s Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program

AKIโ€™s 2025 Africa & LAC Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, now in its 8th annual cycle, aims to support effective Africa and LAC-based organizations in implementing high-impact activities to improve the lives of domestic animals. These include dogs, cats, donkeys, horses, and secondarily, livestock such as cows, pigs, goats, and chickens.

This year marks the first expansion of the grant program to the LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) region. For this pilot program, proposals from LAC organizations are accepted by invitation only.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Benefits of the Grant Program

  • For previous grantees who have successfully completed their AKI-funded grant, the budget ceiling is US$3,000.
  • For new applicants, the budget ceiling is US$2,000.

Note: AKI has a limited budget and aims to award as many grants as possible. Applicants are encouraged to submit cost-effective and impactful proposals rather than requesting the maximum amount.

โœ… Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

Organizations must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Be based in Africa, Central and South America, or the Caribbean.
  • Have been operating for at least 3 years in the animal welfare sector.
  • Have a primary goal of improving the lives of domestic animals in their community.
  • Be actively engaged in their communities to improve animal welfare.
  • Be registered in their country of operation as an NGO, charity, non-profit, or similar.

Ineligible Applicants:

  • Universities, churches, or church groups.
  • Organizations registered in the EU, UK, or with an โ€œarmโ€ outside of Africa or LAC.
  • 501(c)(3) organizations or those working under a 501(c)(3) umbrella.

What Types of Projects Are Funded?

  • Projects benefiting cats, dogs, donkeys, and/or horses.
  • Secondarily, projects benefiting cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, and pigs.

  • Application Period: May 25, 2025 โ€“ June 22, 2025 (midnight GMT).
  • Proposals submitted before May 25, 2025 will not be accepted.
  • All required documentation must be submitted by June 22, 2025 (midnight GMT).
  • Incomplete applications or those that are AI-generated/AI-assisted will not be reviewed.

Important Notes:

  • Applicants will receive an email acknowledgment upon submission.
  • If no acknowledgment is received within 5 days, applicants should notify AKI via the email address provided in the application.
