African Plant Nutrition Phosphorus Fellowship 2026
The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is now accepting applications for the African Plant Nutrition Phosphorus Fellowship 2026. This fellowship aims to encourage scientific programs focused on understanding and improving phosphorus (P) management in Africa’s field or tree crop agroecosystems.
🌟 About the Fellowship
The fellowship supports innovative research and programs that address knowledge gaps in phosphorus management. It is designed for full-time scientists working in African National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) institutions or universities.
💰 Benefits
- Awards of USD $5,000 each will be granted to up to five full-time scientists.
- Eligible recipients must be working in African NARES institutions or universities.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must:
- Be full-time scientists working at an African NARES institution or university.
- Hold a Ph.D. degree. Applications from scientists in Post-Doctorate positions are also eligible.
- Submit a creative proposal addressing current knowledge gaps or synthesizing existing information to improve phosphorus management. Proposals should align with at least one of APNI’s high-priority topics:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship: Matching crop growth dynamics with phosphorus applications (source, rate, time, or placement).
- Carbon Farming: Biomass turnover and phosphorus applications.
- Soil Health: Residue management, soil phosphorus status, innovative phosphorus use, cropping system diversification, and management in problem soils.
- Precision Farming: Addressing phosphorus variability at the field scale.
- Evidence of scientific partnerships and institutional collaboration will be reviewed favorably.
- Female scientists are especially encouraged to apply.
📋 Application Process
Applicants must submit the following documents in English or French:
- A description of how the fellowship will improve understanding of phosphorus management in agricultural systems. This should include details of:
