📖 About the AWARD Climate Action Fellowship
The AWARD Climate Action (ACA) Fellowship aims to achieve two key objectives:
- Increase the number of African women leading climate change action.
- Catalyze the production of climate solutions that work for women smallholders.
This Fellowship is designed to address systemic gender inequalities and build the leadership and technical capacity of African women to design and implement inclusive climate solutions. Fellows will be drawn from diverse institutions, including:
- Government agencies
- Non-governmental organizations
- Research institutions
- Academia
- Civil society
- The private sector
Key Highlights of the Fellowship:
- Non-residential, capacity-building program: A one-year career acceleration process.
- Core components:
- Leadership development
- Gender integration training
- Mentorship
- Peer-to-peer learning
- Fellows will conceptualize and implement mini collaborative Climate Research and Innovation Projects (CRIPs) to apply their learning in real-world contexts.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Fellowship, applicants must:
- Be a female citizen of one of the following countries: Benin, Cameroon, Senegal, Kenya, Ghana, or Malawi.
- Hold at least a master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., gender, climate change, agrifood systems).
- Have at least two years of practical fieldwork or research experience.
- Be actively engaged in finding solutions to the effects of climate change.
- Work in national or international organizations, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector.
- Be resident in an African country throughout the Fellowship period.
- Not be a selected Fellow for any other Fellowships offered by AWARD.
Pre-conditions for Participation
Participation in the Fellowship will be guaranteed upon the applicant’s:
- Provision of details of the institution’s head or responsible supervisor to endorse their participation in Fellowship activities.
- Submission of required documentation (e.g., passport and academic certificates).
- Acceptance of AWARD’s code of conduct.
- Timely communication to AWARD regarding participation in any other capacity-building programs.
